UFC 214 Results: Cyborg Justino Levels A Game Tonya Evinger In Third Round
Cris "Cyborg" Justino earns a stoppage victory over Tonya Evinger to become champion at UFC 214.
Cris "Cyborg" Justino has earned her place as the most dominant female fighter of all time, and has left a trail of crumpled and battered bodies in her wake to serve as proof. Due to the Brazilian wrecking machine's domination inside the cage finding a willing opponent has been nothing short of a challenge, yet, finding someone who will step in to go give the former Strikeforce champion an actual fight is an entirely different story.
Tonya Evinger is that exception.
The former Invicta bantamweight champion jumped up with zero hesitation when Megan Anderson pulled out of the fight against Justino shortly after it was made official. Evinger accepted the challenge citing she was not only lacking fear when it came to fighting Justino, but truly believed she could win the bout.
When it comes to a Justino scrap, there's no doubt a fire fight in the trenches is sure to take place, and if Evinger could weather those initial exchanges the lone window of opportunity would open.
Evinger needed to survive the swarm to have a chance and the savvy veteran did just that. Nevertheless, escaping the first round still meant there were 20 minutes to go and that was a finish line she just wasn't going to cross.
While it took Justino a little while to knock the fight out of the tough as nails Evinger, a hard knee from "Cyborg" early in the third round sealed the deal. Justino fought an efficient fight, landed her power early and often and laid claim to the one belt that had managed to elude her in a storied career.
Justino was crowned the undisputed UFC featherweight champion and has eliminated any argument as to who is the greatest female fighter of all time.
