Angela Lee Not Underestimating Jenny Huang Ahead Of First Title Defense
ONE atomweight champion Angela Lee is eager to put on a show Saturday, March 11, at ONE: Warrior Kingdom.
Angela Lee is just three days away from defending her ONE atomweight world title for the first time, and the 20-year-old star is feeling in great shape ahead of ONE: Warrior Kingdom.
March 11, Lee will face the undefeated Jenny Huang, who has quietly built herself an impressive 5-0 record. Huang is a dangerous opponent, but with most the spotlight on Lee heading into her first title defense, many are billing Huang as a big underdog. Despite what the media and fans say, Lee expects a tough outing in the ONE Championship cage Saturday night.
“Jenny is a great athlete,” Lee said. “She is an amazing competitor and has obviously earned the opportunity to challenge for the title. Jenny is the complete package, with good striking and a really good ground game. I need to be at my absolute best to make sure I can defend the belt successfully.”
Since winning the belt last May, Lee has had a tough time dealing with injuries and has been on the sidelines for the best part of 10 months. While some fighters lose their hunger when they climb to the top of the mountain, Lee says she still has it all to prove and that the fire burning within is as strong as it’s ever been.
“I would love to test my skills against the best fighters in the world, and to show everyone how much I have improved since my last fight,” Lee said. “I’m coming into this bout against Jenny hungry and determined. Winning the ONE atomweight world championship was one of the best achievements of my career so far, but I don’t want to go into this fight feeling like I’m the champion. I want to stay as hungry as the challenger.

“A lot of fighters lose their edge when they start to think that it’s easy being champion. Keeping the belt is a lot harder than winning it the first time around. I won’t take any opponent for granted, especially not someone as talented as Jenny Huang. I still have much to do in the sport of mixed martial arts, and I’m going to kick off the next chapter of my career against one of the top contenders.”
This weekend, Lee will fight for the first time in Bangkok, Thailand, having previously fought for ONE Championship in Singapore, Indonesia and the Philippines. Lee said she’s looking forward to putting on a show for the fans in Bangkok on Saturday and that she is expecting a raucous atmosphere.
“I’m excited to headline the fight card in Bangkok,” Lee said. “Based on the previous event and the passionate MMA fans in Thailand, I already know it’s going to be crazy. I hear the crowd is absolutely amazing and I’m excited to showcase my skills in front of the local fans. Thailand has such a rich martial arts history and it’s an honor to be able to compete here.”
