Former UFC middleweight champion Luke Rockhold is taking extreme measures to recover from his most recent knee injury.

Taking to his Instagram story, Rockhold showcased the procedure doctors are implementing to get him back inside the Octagon.

“I had to get fat so they could take the stem cells off my lower back, which they liposuctioned out,” Rockhold told the camera.

From here, fans witness doctors graphically working on injecting the stem cells into Rockhold knees (If you're squeamish, this is where you leave.).

In terms of competition, Rockhold (15-3), also the former Strikeforce champion, was scheduled to rematch Ronaldo "Jacare" Souza in December before pulling out of the bout with the knee injury. Rockhold won in their initial contest under the Strikeforce banner in 2011. The American Kickboxing Academy product was looking to get back into the win column after losing his belt in spectacular fashion to current champ Michael Bisping at UFC 199 in June.

Prior to this devastating setback, Rockhold scored a submission over former light heavyweight champion turned middleweight contender Lyoto Machida before dethroning the champion Chris Weidman with a dominant fourth-round TKO in their title fight UFC 194.

To date, 13 of his 15 career wins have ended via stoppage, including nine submission wins and 10 coming within the opening frame.

There is currently no word on when Rockhold is expected to return to competition.
