Patrick Cote Calls Out Jake Ellenberger For UFC 210
Patrick Cote is looking for a fight April 8 at UFC 210 and he believes he knows the perfect opponent--Jake Ellenberger.

The two were previously expected to fight on UFC on Fox 18 in January 2015, however, the fight never took place, and the two were instead matched with different opponents in their next fights. At the time, both traded insults back and forth on social media, but with the fight never happening, the heat between the two was seemingly never extinguished.

Now two years down the line, Cote hopes the fight can be resurrected. Suffice to say, the Canadian isn't pleased he remains unranked in the welterweight division while Jake Ellenberger sits as the No. 12-ranked fighter.

"I think everybody knows I want to fight Jake Ellenberger," Cote told MMA Junkie Radio. "The thing is, two years ago we had a couple of discussion on Twitter, like a little beef. I think it was like two years ago. His excuse [for not fighting me] was like because I wasn't ranked so maybe for him it wasn't a good fight to make. But, you know, let's be honest, the guy only won two of his last eight fights and he's still ranked 12 or 13 and that doesn't make any sense.

"This is very easy to make an excuse about a loss when you're only fighting a guy who is ranked. It's easy, you say, 'Hey, I'm only fighting ranked guys, so that's why it doesn't matter if I lost because this guy was ranked in the top 15. So I'm still top 15.' Let's be honest, the guy only won two of his last eight fights, that doesn't mean [he's] supposed to still be top 15."

Having only lost to two men ranked in the top eight in the past five years, Cote believes his body of work more than justifies a spot in the rankings. Furthermore, he believes a win over Ellenberger will see him finally achieve that.

"I'm trying to call him [out] in a very polite way, in a classy way--I just want to fight this guy," Cote said. "I just want to fight a ranked guy. I don't understand why I'm not in the top 15. The only guy who has beaten me in the 170 division is a title contender--Stephen Thompson. That, I think, was the last fight, and he supposed to be a champion; and [Donald] 'Cowboy' Cerrone he, before his last fight against [Jorge] Masvidal, looked unstoppable at 170.

"I don't understand this ranking, and I'm not the only one. This is why I want to fight this guy. I feel like Jake Ellenberger, Rick Story or even Tarec Saffiedine, I don't have anything against those guys, I have a little thing against Jake Ellenberger, but this is pretty clear and everybody knows, and he knows, that I want to fight him."

Cote didn't just stop short of asking for Ellenberger for his next fight. The Canadian recognizes the opportunity to fight on a pay-per-view card close to home and thinks the UFC's return to Buffalo coming up in April would be the best place to make the fight happen.

"I want to fight him in Buffalo at UFC 210 on April 8--that's what I want," Cote said. "It's close [to] the border, it's close to Canada, so Canadians will be able to come. It's the first time [the] UFC came back to Buffalo since 1995, so it's going to be a big event, and I want to be a part of that.

"I've been wanting to fight this guy for a long time, man, so the timing--it's perfect timing now."
