It was a quiet weekend across the boxing world without any major world title fights taking place, but that didn’t stop some of the top prospects in the sport from making a splash.

January 20 saw Rob Brant (22-0) make easy work of Alexis Hloros. Brant unleashed a barrage of punches to the head and body, taking no time to settle in. It quickly became apparent that Hloros had little to offer and he was put down late in the first. He was unable to answer the 10-count and left the referee no choice but to stop the bout.

The win marked four straight stoppages for Brant, who has finished nine of his last 10 opponents. In the post-fight interview, Brant said he has his eyes on the biggest challenges available.

Ranked third in the WBA middleweight division, Brant asked for a fight with second-ranked Ryota Murata of Japan or top-ranked WBA middleweight contender Hassan N’Dam of France. He expects to fight one of them before the end of 2017.

Over on ShoBox, fourth-ranked Danny Roman and third-ranked Adam Lopez put on an entertaining bout that saw fans leave happy.

Roman dropped Lopez with a dangerous left hook in the fourth round. On unsteady legs, Lopez rose to his feet.

The fifth round saw Lopez do the clearer, technical punching by smothering Roman’s attack. As the bout went on and Lopez continued to swell, it was clear that Roman’s punches were doing the damage. After the ninth round, trainer Ronnie Shields mercifully called a stop to the bout, giving Roman the win.

The bout was upgraded to a title eliminator just 11 days before the fight, meaning that Roman will be in line for a world title shot in the coming months.
