James Gallagher: 'God Help Anyone Who Gets in My Way'
Rising Irish star James Gallagher intends to steamroll Anthony Taylor at Bellator 169 in Dublin.
James Gallagher has had a lively fight week ahead of Bellator 169, but he’s a man still walking round with a big smile on his face taking it all in.
Speaking to FloCombat ahead of his co-main event with Anthony ‘Pretty boy’ Taylor this Friday, Gallagher said he was enjoying himself despite the hostilities with his opponent.
“I’m just having fun—this is my week,” Gallagher said. “I’m just rolling with it and having a good time. I don’t get to spend much time with my father any more so we’ve just been chilling out this week, rolling around and that’s all it is for me, a bit fun.”
Having had run-ins with Taylor at both the open workouts and press conference today, Gallagher has had plenty of time up and close and personal with his opponent on Friday. Suffice to say, he’s not been all that impressed by what he’s seen.
“It was weird, when we did the face-offs I thought he was going to have a panic attack,” Gallagher said. “It’s just going to be a bad night for him, he’s trying to talk, trying to bring my family into it and get political about things so I’m just letting him do it. He can do it all and say all that.
“On Friday night, he’s going to walk in there, look out and see that crowd and he’s going to say ‘Oh my god there’s a whole country in front of me’. I’m just chilling, I’m not stressed about nothing you know what I’m saying. I’m just coming here to fight and it’s going to be fun. It’s just going to be a bad night for him and he’s digging himself a deep hole.
“After I leave him lying there on the floor, I’m just going to say ‘Say something now’ and then we will see what he has to say.”
Despite Taylor taking shots at Gallagher’s relationship with his father and an ill-advised reference of his nationality, Gallagher said his words mattered little to him and that things still weren’t personal from his perspective.
“It’s personal for me and I don’t get paid by the hour,” Gallagher said. “I just feel so free. My body is fresh and I feel loose and my mind is free. I hold no hate against anything or anyone. I feel like my techniques are going to flow and that’s just the way it’s going to be.
“I’m going to be precise on my techniques and my timing is going to be right. I’m just going to have fun in front of my hometown and it’s nice to be here—I feel good.”
Should Gallagher get the win on Friday night, the SBG Ireland man already has something in mind to ask for when he gets on the microphone. He hinted at something big, but wouldn’t quite let all his secrets out.
“I have stuff lined up,” Gallagher said. “It’s not really next year, but after this one I’m sure it will be announced and stuff, but it’s big. I’m happy, I’ve been putting the work in and it’s going to be good.
“I’m on this journey to the top and I’m just going to keep my head down and charge forward. God help anyone that gets in my way because I’m going to quickly remove them. That’s the way it is—that’s the fight game.”
