Roy Jones Jr. Knockout Night at the D Undercard Breakdown
Roy Jones Jr Promotions brings a stacked undercard of some of the hottest prospects in Vegas to Knockout Night at the D, live Saturday on FloBoxing.
Eight up-and-coming prospects look to make a statement this Saturday night, Dec. 17, on the undercard of the Roy Jones Jr. Promotion's final "Knockout Night at The D" event of the year, live from Las Vegas.
The four-bout undercard, which can be seen live worldwide on FloBoxing.tv, features a solid lineup of prospects stepping up against tough competition.
Notably, a six-round welterweight fight features local undefeated prospect Jeremy "J-Flash" Nichols (7-0, two knockouts) as he steps up against another undefeated fighter in San Diego's Kevin "KO" Ottley. (3-0, two knockouts).
Nichols not only comes in the more experienced fighter on Saturday night; he'll also be the most recognizable to the local crowd, as this marks his seventh appearance at "The D" in eight pro fights. A win Saturday would cap off a busy 2016 for Nichols. He's already fought five times and will make it six against Ottley.
The lesser known Ottley, meanwhile, will make his first appearance as a professional in the United States. His first three pro bouts took place in Mexico against unknown opposition a weight class up at 154 lbs, so Nichols figures to provide a stern test for him at Saturday's event.
Another undefeated Las Vegas local, Randy "El Matador" Moreno (7-0, six knockouts), will appear in his astounding eighth fight of 2016. He will face off against tough Wisconsin fighter Mike Folwer (5-3, two knockouts) in a six-round featherweight fight.
Fowler's last two fights have been losses on the road, the last on CBS Sports Network against top prospect Devin Haney, but he is battle-tested and will be the toughest competition to date for the young and undefeated Moreno.
In the first six-round bout of the evening, Fort Worth, Texas, fighter Jessie Hernandez (7-1, six knockouts), will take on St. Louis, Missouri's Sharone Carter (6-1, two knockouts).
If there can be a "crossroads" type fight between prospects with less than 10 career fights, this is it. Both fighters have only one defeat--each coming by very close decision against tough competition. Hernandez fell to the 11-0 Ray Ximenez by split decision, and Carter lost a decision to 6-1-1 Rafael Gramajo. A win in this fight would undoubtedly be the biggest victory of either fighter's career.
The action kicks off with bantamweights, as the third featured undefeated Las Vegas local on the undercard, Max "The Baby-Faced Assassin" Ornelas (6-0, three knockouts) will take on Jorge Perez (6-4-1, three knockouts) of Riverside, Calif., in a four-round bout.
An interesting note about this showdown is that the undefeated Ornelas is only 18 years old and Perez, already an 11-fight veteran, is only 19. Ornelas, who turned pro a day before his 18th birthday last June, looks for his seventh win in just over six months. Perez, meanwhile, comes into Saturday on a four-fight winning streak of his own, capably setting the stage for a high-stakes throwdown.
