Teammate Gallagher Says McGregor vs. Mayweather Biggest Sporting Event Ever
Rising Bellator star James Gallagher talks teammate Conor McGregor receiving boxing license and potential Mayweather fight.
You'll likely see a lot of opinion pieces on McGregor versus Mayweather today, but perhaps one of the most informed perspectives you'll come across is from his SBG Ireland teammate, James Gallagher.
Gallagher, 20 years-old, is regarded as one of SBG's brightest up and coming talents and he trains with McGregor regularly at SBG in Dublin.
Following last night's breaking news that McGregor had been granted a boxing license by the state of California, Flocombat caught up with Gallagher in London, England to get his perspective on it all.
"That's lethal he's got a boxing license," Gallagher said with a smile on his face. "He's bigger than the sport. People don't want to admit it, but he's bigger than the sport.
"I think the UFC are trying to hold him back or something, but it's too late, it's done. He's bigger than the whole game and that fight with Floyd and the boxing, that's the biggest sporting thing in history. Bigger than football and the lot. It will blow everything out of the water. It would be something historic, it's hard to put into words."
While many have been quick to dismiss McGregor's chances in a boxing match with Mayweather, Gallagher said the American would have something like he's never seen before on hands if the two ever met.
"Floyd's never seen that style before, all he's seen is boxers before," Gallagher said. "He's never seen anyone with the MMA style of boxing before and it's something different. It'd be an interesting one to see and if Conor hits him he's hitting the floor--he's going down.
"Conor's left hand is just too powerful and the size advantage he'd have on Floyd would be big. Conor's a massive, massive 145er. Same as Floyd I think he's 146-147. Conor is just massive for that weight so he'd have the size advantage and he'd have the power and stuff.
"Floyd is the greatest boxer ever, But Conor is the greatest MMA fighter of all time. I would be so excited to see that if it went down."
