Boxing TV Guide: Diego Magdaleno vs. Art Hovhannisyan and This Week's Best
You need us boxing fans--this week more than ever. Premier Boxing Championship's decline has left the sport with a lot of holes in the calendar. And, right now at least, no one is stepping up to fill the void.

That means what little boxing is out there comes in the form of fighters you've never heard of, on channels you're not sure you get. Never fear. If you want to see men punching each other in the face, we are here to serve as your guide. What's worth watching? Who will win--and why? Read on gentle reader for your weekly TV Guide to the sweet science.

Diego Magdaleno (28-2, 12 KOs) vs. Art Hovhannisyan (17-2-3, 9 KOs)

Key Info
Date: October 7
Network: Estrella TV/Ringtv.com
Promoter: Golden Boy Promotions
Undercard bouts: Damon Allen 10-0) vs TBD, Joseph Aguirre (14-0) vs. Roberto Carlos Rivera (6-2)

Interest Level: Medium

Magdaleno was a Top Rank promoted prospect who was slowly moved into a pair of world title shots at 130 and 135, both of which ending in dismal failure. Hovhannisyan is the kind of fighter Magdaleno usually wins a decision against in between high profile whoopings.

Does that mean the result writers itself? Perhaps not.

Hovhannisyan is the decided underdog. But he's historically been very game against everyone he's fought. In some instances, his record has black marks for things he couldn't control. He should have beaten Cristobal Cruz, but a headbutt caused the technical decision ending that came about just a little too early. Magdaleno has also been out of the ring for a year, which won't help him.

He should have enough class to win this, though Hovhannisyan will keep it close. On a weekend like this, that makes this one of the better fights you'll find.

Main Event Prediction: Diego Magdaleno by Majority Decision

Orlando Cruz (24-4-1, 12 KOs) vs. Gabino Cota (19-6-1, 17 KOs)

Key Info
Date: October 7
Network: Telemundo
Promoter: All Star Boxing
Undercard bouts: TBD

Interest Level: Low

This card very well might get cancelled by Hurricane Matthew, but if it doesn't, well, Orlando Cruz returns to TVs against for reasons no one really grasps. This is a rematch of a well contested fight from one year ago that Cruz came out the winner of. Cota isn't anything special, but the real issue here is that neither is Cruz.

Main Event Prediction: Orlando Cruz by Unanimous Decision

Juan Francisco Estrada (33-2, 24 KOs) vs. Raymond Tabugon (18-5-1, 8 KOs)

Key Info
Date: October 8
Network: beIN Sports Espanol
Promoter: Zanfer Promotions
Undercard bouts: Emanuel Navarrete (15-1) vs. Martin Castillas (15-8-1)

Interest Level: Low/Medium

Estrada was the clear No. 2 fighter at 112 lbs before taking over a year off. Now that Roman Gonzalez is a money fight, he's back chasing a rematch. On the other hand, Tabugon was KOed in his last fight and has lost two of his last three. He has no relevant experience to prepare him for this level of fight.

But Estrada is a really good boxer, the best fighting this weekend. That's not much, but it's something.

Main Event Prediction: Juan Francisco Estrada by 7th-Round KO

Elias Damien Araujo (12-0, 6 KOs) vs. Jonathan Jose Eniz (14-6-1, 4 KOs)

Key Info
Date: October 8
Network: TyC Sports
Promoter: O.F.R. Promotions S.R.L.
Undercard bouts: Eduardo Sarmiento (10-0) vs. Daniel Coronel (5-8-1)

Interest Level: Low

This is a 10-round Argentine domestic level contest here. Is there an audience for this? Are you among them? Maybe, if you have DirecTV and really low standards for how you spend your time. Eniz has been active since 2014 and already has 21 fights because, well, Argentina. He might provide some strange angles as a southpaw for Araujo, but we all know what's up just by glancing at the respective records.

Main Event Prediction: Elias Araujo by Unanimous Decision
