Two powerhouse heavyweights will grace the cage in the Euro FC 1 co-main event in what is a sequel to a fight that took place just over a year ago in Japan.
Yosef Ali Mohammad gets an opportunity for revenge as he takes on fellow heavyweight Fernando Rodrigues Jnr this Saturday night at Euro FC 1 which goes down in Helsinki, Finland. Although a man of few words what Mohammad has to say is straight to the chase and his demeanor is laser focused squaring things up against the man that knocked him out last summer.
“I made some mistakes,” said Mohammad. “He won the fight, he was the better man on that day. I have learned from my mistakes and I won’t do it again. I don’t know why or how I lost, all I know is I got very emotional and that won’t happen again. I won’t be doing anything different but I do see myself winning by knockout.”
Currently training out of Malmo, Sweden, Mohammad is a new breed of heavyweight fighters making his way through the ranks in Europe and is considered one of the top Scandinavian prospects. At just 27 years’ old and over 6 feet 6 inches tall, he’s got all the physical attributes you’d expect of a big, strong and athletic heavyweight.
With a respectable record of 6-2 all his wins have come with a finish with notable wins over Dion Starling, Mike Neun and Nick Barno. His opinion on heavyweight MMA is pretty simple, the lighter, quicker on their feet big men are the future.
“Every heavyweight fighter is either heavy or slow,” said Mohammad. “I don’t like the slow type of person. I think I’m a fast person so the fast person will win. The lighter heavyweight.”
Now involved with Euro FC, he has plans for revenge this Saturday night but then it’s straight on to get into the title picture and claim a championship belt.
“My coach has a good relationship with the Euro FC team and they are very nice,” said Mohammad. “So far it seems like it’s very professional. As of right now I am fighting for Euro FC. For the future I don’t know. We’ll see what is presented. I want to be the champion. That’s my main goal.”
Having spent his first full week in Finland, the Swedish powerhouse doesn’t plan on being a fan favorite and is brutally honest about the time spent thus far in Helsinki.
“Finland is very boring; I don’t like it but nice people.”
