Ohio's Caged Madness returns to FloCombat's event hub, and the all-amateur promotion is breaking out some surprisingly good star power.
Caged Madness 45 brings its 12-fight card to Akron, Ohio on Friday, September 30. The action starts at 6 P.M. CDT and will be streamed live only on FloCombat.
Here are three reasons to tune into Caged Madness 45:
Austin Meese has already been a part of the main event at two Caged Madness events and Friday will mark his third.
The 2-1 Ohio lightweight comes into this fight already popular on his regional scene, but Meese still has a lot of expectations to live up to due to his family connections.
Meese, who's only 19 years old, is the cousin of UFC bantamweight contender Cody Garbrandt. It's helped his popularity, but there's a lot of pressure that comes with sharing the same genetics with one of the baddest 135-pounders in the world.
That pressure hasn't stopped Meese from taking any easy fights. He's facing the fourth-ranked amateur lightweight in his state, TJ Rigel (4-1).
Rigel is coming off a quick first-round armbar win in his last fight, while Meese dropped his last fight by decision to J'Mar Moore at Caged Madness 44.
Will Meese prove that he has more in common with his cousin than just tattoos and suave hair or will Rigel spoil his showcase? Watch Caged Madness 45 on FloCombat Friday night to find out.
There's the Great Wall of China, Petra in Jordan, and the Roman Coliseum, but nothing brings more wonder and amusement to fight fans on this planet quite like amateur heavyweight fights.
Caged Madness 45 has two heavyweight fights scheduled for Friday night's event, and they won't disappoint.
First, Josh Ackley and Christopher Smith make the walk to the cage. Ackley (0-1) just started his MMA career in June, but he lost to Tim Haynes via TKO at Cage Madness 43.
His opponent, Smith (1-1), kicked off his career with a 21-second KO, but he lost his most recent bout via decision in October of last year.
The next heavyweight bout pits undefeated James Braden against former light heavyweight Joshua Bailey.
Both fighters last fought at Caged Madness 43, where Braden (1-0) made his MMA debut with a first-round KO, while Bailey (2-1) dropped the first fight of his career.
To find out which of these heavyweight will walk out of the cage on their own two feet, tune into Caged Madness 45 Friday night.
In regional MMA, it's rare that fighters are able to settle into one weight class. In order to stay active, a fighter will take a fight one or two weight classes above his natural division.
Mitch Dotto is an example of one of those fighters. Dotto (3-3) started his career at heavyweight, but with a 13-second stoppage in the first round, he quickly made a drop down to light-heavyweight.
Dotto is now undefeated at 185 pounds and all three of his wins in that division have come in the first round. In fact, Dotto has never made it to the second round in his amateur career.
He'll put his 3-0 mark at middleweight on the line against Josh Barbee (4-5) on Friday. Barbee has only gone to the judges once and like Dotto all of his wins have come by stoppage.
Will Dotto's streak of first round finishes at 185 pounds continue or will Barbee play spoiler? Fire up your FloPRO accounts Friday night for Caged Madness 45 to find out.
