Justin Scoggins vs. Ian McCall will no longer open the UFC 201 main card this Saturday in Atlanta.

The bout was called off late last evening when it became apparent that Scoggins was having complications with his weight cut and wouldn't be able to make the 126-pound limit.

The news was first reported by Erik Apple, former WEC, and Strikeforce fighter, on the UG forum and was then confirmed later on by Bloody Elbow.

Scoggins attempted to have the fight taken at bantamweight, but his efforts were in vain, and he was removed from the card.

McCall was understandably upset at the situation.

Bloody Elbow spoke to Chris Scoggins, Justin's father about what had happened.

"We just had to make a horrible, disappointing call," he said. "Justin could not get below 132.5 pounds. He was all good and his body just stopped allowing the weight to come off. No sweating, nothing. That's too much [of a] weight difference for a catchweight so Justin is out. This is horrible."

Despite having weight issues for this fight, Scoggins has never missed weight at 125 pounds in his career, having fought at the weight 13 times.

Having scored big wins over Josh Sampo and Ray Borg, Scoggins is currently on a frustrating run during which he has pulled out of his last two bouts. He was previously set to fight at UFC Fight Night 85 in March against Ben Nguyen. However, he dropped out of that bout due to injury.

The late pull out is a massive frustration to McCall, who hasn't fought since January 2015 due to a series of nerve related injuries in his arms, shoulders and hands.

Ever since taking current champion Demetrious Johnson to a draw in the inaugural flyweight tournament, McCall's career has been stop-start with losses to Johnson in a rematch, Joseph Benavidez and John Lineker sandwiching strong wins against Iliarde Santos and Brad Pickett.

This is the second straight fight where McCall's opponent has had trouble with weight. Lineker weighed in at 130 when they met at UFC 183.

While McCall still showed up Friday morning to weigh in--where he made weight--he will not compete on Saturday's fight card. Two other Flyweight bouts are currently slated for this Saturday as Wilson Reis takes on Hector Sandoval and Ryan Benoit takes on Fredy Serano.
