Dan Henderson: 'Win or Lose, I'm ready mentally to retire'
Dan Henderson says he's ready to retire from MMA--but not before one last fight against Michael Bisping for the UFC title.
In an exclusive interview with the Talking Brawls Podcast, future UFC Hall of Famer Dan Henderson has confirmed his upcoming re rematch against UFC middleweight Michael Bisping at UFC 204 will indeed be his last.
"Win or lose I'm ready mentally to retire," said Henderson. "My body could still probably go another two, three years more. I've put it through enough. I'm ready to take it a little bit easier, but still be involved in MMA doing something a little bit different than fighting."
Henderson defeated Bisping in their initial bout UFC 100 in July 2009, where fans saw the American legend walk away one of the most iconic knockouts in UFC history. The punch--and the flying follow-up blow--earned him numerous Knockout of the Year awards and is forever etched in the minds of those who saw it.
In his most recent fight, Henderson walked away another violent knockout, this time over Hector Lombard at UFC 199, the very card Bisping dethroned then-champion Luke Rockhold.
While the UFC has not officially announced a date or venue for his rematch against Bisping, Henderson is confident an official announcement is imminent.
"I think I've heard a number of things, but I believe it could be in a stadium over there in Manchester," Henderson said. "I'm pretty sure it will be a pay-per-view, and I'd expect that it happens relatively soon, possibly in the next couple of days. We should be able to get it figured out. I'm waiting to hear the exact date, and where but I'm almost positive it will happen, there's no reason why it shouldn't at this point."
