The Full Contact Fighting Federation (FCFF) brings a loaded fight card to the Roseland Theater on Burnside in Portland, Ore., Saturday, July 16, with Rumble at the Roseland 88.
If you're in the Portland area, you'll want to catch this one in person, but if not, we have you covered. You can watch LIVE on FloCombat Saturday, July 16, beginning at 9:45 p.m. EST.
Rumble at the Roseland 88 features 12 amateur MMA bouts--and six of them will have golden implications. The talent is immense. The stage is set. Here are five reasons to strap in for Rumble at the Roseland 88 right here at FloCombat.com Saturday night.
You heard that 50 percent of the fights are title fights or super fights, right? Yes? Just making sure, because that's kind of a big deal. In amateur MMA, snagging the title oftentimes signals that a fighter is ready to make the jump to the professional level. On top of that, there's just something fun and electric when gold gets involved in an MMA scrap.
The next professional standout in the Pacific Northwest will go home a champion Saturday. With four official title fights and two super fights that will likely crown the next top contender, Rumble at the Roseland 88 brings the heat.
The lightweight (155-pound) super fight on the evening is a hotly anticipated rematch between Quinten Wyland and Thomas Patrick. The two fought previously at Rumble at the Roseland 87, where Patrick defeated Wyland via first-round stoppage.
As is the case with MMA, though, chaos followed. Wyland remained conscious throughout the fight-ending submission attempt, and he never tapped out. The crowd loudly protested the stoppage. Now, we will have resolution Saturday at Rumble at the Roseland 88.
In the bantamweight (135-pound) super fight, former training partners Sean Kalinoski and Ericson Abalos will square off. While the two maintain there's no bad blood between them, the loser of this one will have a tough pill to swallow Sunday morning.
It's a good old-fashioned gym rivalry, folks! In the night's co-main and main events, Rumble at the Roseland features a Gracie Barra vs. Impact JJ showdown.
And my goodness is there some tension here. Impact JJ coach Nick Gilardi used to serve as the MMA coach at Gracie Barra. While at Gracie Barra, Gilardi trained Tyree Fortune, who now faces Impact JJ's Clayton York in the main event of the evening. Oh, and there's a 205-pound title on the line. Follow that little love hate triangle?
Also on the Gracie Barra vs. Impact JJ level, Rumble at the Roseland 88 features a champion vs. champion bout between featherweight champ Cris Williams (Gracie Barra) and lightweight champ Joey Dursee (Impact JJ). In moving to 155, Williams attempts to dual-wield FCFF titles.
