Former UFC middleweight kingpin Anderson Silva has agreed to replace Jon Jones and will face Daniel Cormier on Saturday's UFC 200 card.
The bout was first reported by Globo, then subsequently denied by Dana White. When that happens, it usually means the story is true—and once again, that's the case here, as UFC partner TMZ reported later in the evening that Silva would be filling the role.
Silva was scheduled to face Uriah Hall in May, but pulled out of the fight after requiring gall bladder surgery. The surgery requires 4-5 weeks of recovery time, which means Silva has spent minimal time back in the gym. It is hard to imagine him as anything but a massive underdog to Cormier, but mixed martial arts is a crazy sport.
The UFC announced on Saturday night that Miesha Tate vs. Amanda Nunes for the bantamweight title is now the main event. Brock Lesnar vs. Mark Hunt is the co-main.
