After a reign of nearly 10 years, heavyweight great Wladimir Klitschko was finally deposed by the rambunctious Brit Tyson Fury last November in Dusseldorf, Germany. It was a dreadful fight, featuring long minutes of almost complete inactivity, but the outcome was decisive. On that night, at least, Fury was the better man.

Klitschko's strangely subdued performance, however, left many wondering whether Fury's champion victory was little more than a fluke. The rematch, despite the first bout's aesthetic failures, was one of the most anticipated bouts of the year. After eight months, fans would finally get a chance on July 9th in Manchester, to see if Fury could, once again, back up his bold words. Instead, according to a video posted on his Instagram account, the new champion will be forced to postpone the bout due to an ankle injury:

"About 10 days ago, I was running in the lake district and went over on my ankle and sprained my ankle. I've been to the hospital and had X-rays and MRI scans. They said it's not broken but badly sprained, keep off it for six to seven weeks," Fury said, as transcribed by The Mirror. "I tried to train and had a second opinion and had the same advice. The fight will be being postponed.

"Sorry to all my fans for letting you down but injuries do happen. It's one of those things. My apologies to everybody who has booked dates but the fight will be on as soon as possible. That's all I know but the fight is still going ahead. Once the ankle gets better, we will reschedule."

While Fury and Klitschko continue to delay their inevitable rematch, another British slugger is making a case for heavyweight primacy. Former Olympian Anthony Joshua defends his IBF Heavyweight title Saturday on Showtime against Dominic Breazeale.
