Scott Jorgensen is a WEC and UFC veteran who has collected wins over fighters such as Jeff Curran, Antonio Banuelos and Brad Pickett. One of the most memorable moments of his fighting career was his first scrap with Banuelos, which resulted in a close split-decision loss at WEC 41 in June of 2009.
“Young Guns” put on a show in the blue cage—it was widely considered one of the best fights of the year. It also happened to be the night he was introduced to future Bellator champion Joe Warren.
“When I first met Joe, it was right after the fight when I lost to Banuelos in the WEC," Jorgensen said. "We were at the after-party. We exchanged numbers and I figured we would go our separate ways. And Joe said, 'Yeah, give me a call. And don’t forget your f****** mouthpiece.' At this point, he had two fights in his career.
"He fought Chase Beebe and Kid Yamamoto and he beat them. I mean, I knew his name and his accomplishments in the wrestling world, but at the same time, I was like, 'Who the f*** is this guy telling me not to forget my mouthpiece?' That was my first experience with Joe.”
Jorgensen's first meeting with Warren left an impression, but it was his first gym experience with "The Baddest Man on the Planet" that created a lifelong bond.
“He has a Ferrari engine in him that goes nonstop," Jorgensen said. "The first time we sparred, he was punching me in the back of the head. We start drilling and he is biting me and pulling my hair and I was thinking, 'What in the hell is this guy’s problem?' It took me a while to realize that Joe is so 'go-go-go' that you actually have to get him tired to get any work done.
"He and I have been best friends for the last eight years. We are training partners and he is the best man in my wedding.”
