Bellator 154: Official Results and Recap
The official results from Bellator 154 in San Jose, California
By Tony Reid
In the much anticipated main event at Bellator 154, two of the sport’s finest wrestlers squared off, as Phil Davis and Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal squashed their beef inside San Jose’s SAP Center.
After a two-minute feeling out period on the feet to open the fight, King Mo let his hands go, connecting with a number of power shots. In response, Davis landed a few push kicks and a few solid leg kicks.
Round two started in similar fashion, with King Mo landing straight right/left hook combos and “Mr. Wonderful” scoring from range with a variety of kicks. As the round progressed, though, Davis started to find his offense mojo, landing more kicks and more combinations.
Round three saw more of the same, as Davis did what Davis does, offsetting and nullifying his opponent’s strengths and game plan. The crowd grew restless from a perceived lack of action, but at the 2:03 mark, Davis landed a right hand that rocked Mo and led to a takedown.
Davis fired off submission attempt after submission attempt, but King Mo incredibly stepped over, escaped, and got back to his feet, where he briefly knocked Davis off balance. With 30 seconds to go, Lawal went for broke, but it was all for nothing, as the fight ended, and Davis was awarded the unanimous decision victory.
He will now face Liam McGeary for the Bellator Light Heavyweight Championship. The in-cage faceoff afterward had Liam McGeary throwing some shade and giving a GSP-esque “I’m not impressed by your performance” type of remark toward Mr. Wonderful.
