The official results from UFC Fight Night 87
The probability for a knockout is high any time the big boys step in to throw hands. When those two heavyweights are Andrei Arlovski and Alistair Overeem, the odds give way to a guarantee.
The former UFC champion and former Strikeforce titleholder have built epic careers on their respective abilities to level their opposition, and there was little doubt the two Jackson/Winkeljohn teammates were coming into the Octagon at Fight Night 87 to handle business. That’s just what they do, and it was more of the same on Sunday in Rotterdam.
Despite “The Pit Bull” coming off a loss in most recent showing to Stipe Miocic, the bout against Overeem made sense in the overall scheme of the heavyweight division. Overeem came into the tilt riding a three-fight winning streak, and both have been in striking distance of a potential title opportunity for the past year.
A victory in The Netherlands would mean a big catapult for the winner, and it was Overeem who claimed the spoils in his homeland at Fight Night 87.
The Dutch striker once again put his devastating power on display as he landed a front kick to Arlovski's jaw, then followed up with a brutal left hand that put the Belarus native on the canvas. Sensing the finish, Overeem dove in with heavy ground and pound that brought about the end of the fight.
With the victory, Overeem has won four-straight fights, and has put himself at the front of the heap for the next shot at championship gold.

The co-main event featured two fighters in desperate need of a win.
Stefan Struve and Antonio Silva have been close to title contention throughout their careers, but they have both experienced drastic shifts over the past few years. "Bigfoot" came into Rotterdam having found victory in only one of his last six showings, while the Dutchman had only been successful one time in his previous four fights. With the heavyweight division picking up steam over the next three months, the stakes were high at Fight Night 87, and it only took Struve 16 seconds to capitalize.
"The Skyscraper" wobbled Silva with a short uppercut then folded the American Top Team fighter with a knee to the body. With Silva hurt, Struve unleashed a barrage of elbows to the side of the head, and the referee stepped in to call the fight. His victory on Sunday will keep Struve a relevant player in the heavyweight fold, while it should spell the end of Silva's run under the UFC banner.
