Taking advantage of the big opportunities when they materialize is the name of the fight game and Nick Gehrts did just that on Friday night at Valor Fights 32.

While there was a shake up in the main event just a week out from fight night, Adam Townsend’s injury set the stage for Gerhts to grab the spotlight. The 20-year-old prospect stepped in to face Steven New in the headlining bout at the Knoxville Civic Auditorium. Gerhts made the most of the moment as he forced New to tap to a heel hook early in the first round to pick up the biggest victory of his career.

The co-main event was meant to be a showcase for prospect Damir Ferhatbegovic and it took “The Bosnian Barncat” less than a round of work to prove the hype surrounding him is real. Ferhatbegovic used leg kicks to set up an overhand shot that sent Rob Covington crashing to the canvas.

Outside of the two bouts at the top of the card, the night was filled with a buffet of brutal knockouts. Frank Tate--teammate of UFC heavyweight Walt Harris--absolutely starched his opponent Ben McCombs with a devastating right hand in the first round serving as the most violent finish in a night filled with lights being shut off left and right.
