Nate Diaz isn’t sticking around to see how the drama between Conor McGregor and the UFC plays out. He’s going on vacation.
The Stockton native was slated for a rematch with “Notorious” in the main event at UFC 200, but the matchup was thrown into limbo after McGregor’s refusal to do a media tour led to the promotion pulling him off the card. The Irishman posted a tweet stating the fight was back on, but his claim was shot down by UFC President Dana White just a few hours later as the Zuffa frontman did his best cement the fact McGregor would not be fighting at the event.
With White holding firm to McGregor's removal, Diaz has apparently maintained his stance as well. When questioned by the media last week at the press conference for the UFC’s International Fight Week celebration, Diaz was adamant he’d fight McGregor or no one, and it appears the latter will be the case. On Monday evening Diaz posted a message via Twitter to announce he’ll be heading off for some rest and relaxation, which all but signals the death of the scheduled tilt with McGregor.

The removal of McGregor from the bout--and Diaz slipping off into the unknown--will leave what was projected to be the biggest card in UFC history with a huge void in the main event slot. There has been talk of the highly anticipated rematch between Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones filling the slot, but the current light heavyweight champion still has a medical hurdle to clear, and there is yet to be an official word on the former Olympian's timeline to return.
Nevertheless, should Cormier receive the green light and be able to defend his light heavyweight title in a unification bout against interim champion Jon Jones, the event could retain some of its luster. Fans are eager to see the next chapter in the UFC's most heated rivalry and few things draw attention in the fight game better than a good feud.
