Four Fights That Will Shape The Boxing Landscape In 2016

In only two months of action, 2016 is shaping up to be one of the best years in recent memory for the sport of boxing.
With some of best fighters in the world, scheduled to return to the ring over the next three months. The boxing landscape is in position to hold three mega fights in the back end of 2016 if the favorites in the upcoming bouts handle their business.
Boxing fans will finally be the winners, as they will get to see some of the best pound-for-pound fighters of this generation go head-to-head in some legacy defining fights.
Let’s take an in-depth look at four fight which will shape the boxing landscape in three divisions in the upcoming months.
Alvarez will be looking to build off the best performance of his career against Miguel Cotto who he beat in November to become the Lineal Middleweight World Champion. If Alvarez is able to avoid being upset by the smaller Khan, he will be setup to take on “GGG” in a middleweight unification showdown in September, which more than likely will take place at AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys.
Golvkin (34-0, 31KO’s) heads into his showdown with Wade (18-0, 12KO’s) looking to remain undefeated and extend his consecutive knockout victory streak to 22. The showdown will take at the Fabulous Forum in Los Angeles on April 23, many view the bout as nothing but a stay busy fight for Golovkin who is line for the biggest fight and payday of his career in September.
If things go as planned, Golovkin will be meet Alvarez in the fall in what should be the biggest fight of 2016 calendar year.
Two-Time World Champion and top-rated pound-for-pound fighter Andre Ward (28-0, 15 KOs) returns to the ring, March 26, to begin his assault on the light heavyweight division. Ward will be making his light heavyweight debut when he takes on undefeated and number one rated IBF light heavyweight contender Sullivan Barrera (17-0, 12 KOs) at Oracle Arena.
A win by Ward, will setup a showdown with Unified Light Heavyweight World Champion Sergey Kovalev. Many boxing experts are intrigued to see if Ward’s power and skill continues translating into success in a bigger weight class.
Four-division world champion Adrien "The Problem" Broner will make the first defense of his WBA light welterweight title, against Ashley "The Treasure" Theophane as the main event on Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) card on Spike, April 1 at the D.C. Armory.
Broner (31-2, 23 KOs) will be looking to build off his strong performance last October against tough Russian Khabib Allakhverdiev who beat via a stoppage in the 12th and final round. While Theophane (39-6-1, 11 KOs) enters the fight on a six-bout winning streak and looking to take advantage of the first world title opportunity of his solid career.
A win by Broner could set up a huge unification bout this summer against WBO junior welterweight champion Terrance “Bud” Crawford. Both Broner and Crawford, are considered top ten pound-for-pound fighters in many boxing rankings.

May 7, at Las Vegas (HBO PPV): Canelo Alvarez vs. Amir Khan, 12 rounds, for Alvarez's WBC middleweight title
The WBC, Ring Magazine and Lineal Middleweight World Champion Canelo Alvarez (46-1-1, 32 KOs) and former two-time world champion and resurgent contender Amir "King" Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) recently completed a three-city international press tour to promote their May 7th showdown.
