Shakur Stevenson, Efron Lopez Score Day 2 Upsets At Boxing Olympic Trials
Day two of the US Boxing Olympic Trials in Reno on Tuesday saw the bantamweight division turned on its ear as Shakur Stevenson and Efren Lopez scored major upsets and set the stage for a showdown in the winnerÂ’s bracket final.

Stevenson, the World Junior and World Youth champion, scored a unanimous decision over Ruben Villa, the national Golden Gloves champion. It was the third meeting of the year between the two boxers, with Villa having won the first two bouts. On the opposite side of the bracket, Lopez took down top-seeded Francisco Martinez, the Pan Am Games bronze medalist, in a unanimous decision.

Upset was the story in the light heavyweight division as well, with Jonathan Esquivel beating Steven Nelson, the WSB and World Team Trials champion, 2-1, to set up a winnerÂ’s bracket bout against Elvis Figueroa.

At heavyweight, Cam F. Awesome won his highly-anticipated bout against WSB and World Team Trials champion Joshua Temple by split decision. Awesome will face Derae Crane in the winnerÂ’s bracket final.

Another highlight from the second day included USA Boxing national champ Leroy Davila defeating Nicholas Scaturicho by split decision and Nico Hernandez, the WSB and World Team Trials champion, scoring a similar 2-1 decision over Adrian Servin to set up an intriguing winnerÂ’s bracket final at light flyweight.
