Teammate: Conor McGregor Will Fight Tony Ferguson Next
Artem Lobov hints that Conor McGregor will defend his UFC title vs. interim champ Tony Ferguson next.
Conor McGregor vs. Tony Ferguson for the undisputed UFC lightweight title is on deck.
At least, that's the case if you believe McGregor's teammate and friend, UFC featherweight Artem Lobov.
Speaking with MMA H.E.A.T.'s Karyn Bryant, Lobov discussed McGregor's future, confidently stating his belief that the Irish superstar will return to the UFC Octagon to defend his title against the interim lightweight king Ferguson.
While McGregor recently took a break from MMA to focus on a superfight against boxing legend Floyd Mayweather Jr., Lobov says that chapter is firmly in the past and it's back to the steel cage for "The Notorious" one.
"Now that that's [Mayweather vs. McGregor's] over, well now he's back to defending his belt," Lobov told Bryant. "In my eyes, of course he's going to fight Tony. Why wouldn't he fight Tony? His belt is on the line. Some guy has this fake belt around his waist. Conor wants to just take that away by all means.
"So in my eyes, 100 percent he's going to fight Tony. Who else is he going to fight? Why wouldn't he fight Tony? Why wouldn't he defend that belt? That belt means a lot to Conor. He's dreamed since a very, very long time ago of having that belt, so... it's going to be damn, damn hard to try and take that belt from him. He's going to be defending that belt for a long time."
