Matt Mitrione Talks Fedor KO, Challenges Stipe Miocic: 'Let's Do This'
Matt Mitrione challenges Stipe Miocic after his KO of Fedor Emelianenko at Bellator NYC.
Matt Mitrione scored the biggest win of his MMA career Saturday at Bellator NYC, and he's looking to keep that momentum rolling.
After knocking out Russian legend Fedor Emelianenko, Mitrione caught up with FloCombat backstage for an impromptu interview, dropping some gems along the way.
"I do think I'm the best heavyweight in the world," he said. "Any given day, I am. And I'll tell you what, I love [UFC heavyweight champion] Stipe [Miocic]. Stipe's a great dude. I love Stipe.
"Stipe: Get down for the Ali Act. Let's get this Ali Act passed so when I get this belt, you and I can have a unification fight. It'd be awesome, great money, let's do this. Ali Act: You and me, Stipe."
Should that cross-promotional bout not come to fruition, a potential opponent inside the Bellator cage is the newly signed, former The Ultimate Fighter winner Roy Nelson.
Mitrione, however, isn't down for that cause--but he does see a bright future atop the Bellator heavyweight division.
"I don't want to fight Roy right now," he said. "At the press conference, I said this morning Bellator's going to be leading the industry. Now it's up to them to lead from the front and not chase from the back. Let's see how they do it."
