Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather Signed, Set For August 26 In Las Vegas
A boxing matchup between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather is finalized and will go down Aug. 26 in Las Vegas.
Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather is happening. Officially.
According to Yahoo Sports' Kevin Iole, McGregor and Mayweather will face off Aug. 26 in Las Vegas, either at the MGM Grand Garden Arena or the T-Mobile Arena.
While the Nevada Athletic Commission approved a request from Mayweather Promotions to hold a boxing card Aug. 26 at the MGM Grand, sources from T-Mobile told Yahoo the venue could change.
For most MMA fans and FloCombat readers, however, the venue is less important than the fact that it's actually happening. The fight has been discussed at length since McGregor's most recent victory inside the cage—a second-round TKO of Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 in November—and many felt it would never happen.
While there were roadblocks aplenty, both sides apparently found a happy medium, and they will lace 'em up and throw down inside the ring.
At 49-0 and widely considered one of the greatest boxers ever, Mayweather will undoubtedly be considered a heavy favorite over the Irish superstar. One thing McGregor has proven time and again throughout his MMA career, however, is that one strike can change everything.
Of his 21 career victories, 18 have come via knockout/TKO, making him one of the most feared strikers in the game today. Mayweather, however, is perhaps the best defensive boxer in the sport's history. McGregor will need to find him and touch him up to make that power count.
For now, though, the fun can truly begin. McGregor vs. Mayweather is happening, y'all. What a time to be alive.
