Mark Godbeer Gets New Opponent For UFC 209
Mark Godbeer gets a new opponent for UFC 209 following Todd Duffee's withdrawl, Daniel Spitz
The UFC have moved swiftly to find a replacement for Mark Godbeer at UFC 209 following the announcement Todd Duffee would no longer be able to compete at UFC 209.
Sources close to FloCombat have revealed Godbeer will now face heavyweight Daniel Spitz who will make his UFC debut at the T-Mobile Arena on March 4.
Spitz (5-0) was booked to fight Thursday evening at King Of The Cage: New Blood against Matt Howell, however, he was pulled from the card just a few hours before his fight when he was offered the opportunity to fight Godbeer.
Fighting out of Spokane, Washington, Spitz is undefeated as a professional having fought in five different promotions across the domestic scene. The 26-year-old made his pro debut in July 2015 and has since won four of his five fights inside the distance with three submission victories and one TKO in his last outing against Colton Vaughn at KOTC: Fall Out last November.
Spitz now has the opportunity of a lifetime following Duffee’s withdrawal, but if he is to seize it with both hands he must defeat a man who’s been preparing to fight in Las Vegas for weeks already, Mark Godbeer.
Godbeer (11-3), fights out of Bridgwater, Somerset, in England and was the 265-pound champion of British promotion BAMMA before signing his UFC contract in the latter half of last year.
Godbeer debuted at UFC Fight Night 99 in Belfast, Northern Ireland, on Nov. 19, when he faced American Justin Ledet. That evening, the occasion seemed to get to the Brit, and the fight was over before it really began with Ledet submitting Godbeer via rear-naked choke in just over two minutes.
The change of opponent at such short notice isn’t ideal for Godbeer, but he must not refocus and make sure he bounces back in a big way on March 4.
