USADA Update Reveals Illegally Branded UFC PEDs Being Sold in Public Domain
FloCombat reveals a wacky development in the world of USADA, uncovering UFC-branded PEDs.
What a year for performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs), tainted supplements, and fighters being accused and then later acquitted of substance use. USADA has been in prime form throughout 2016, but we may just have the scariest development yet on Thursday.
In the past few days, USADA updated its "high-risk dietary supplement list" with a new set of illegally branded Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) supplements being sold under a fabricated "UFC Pharma" name.
The latest update to the database shows that products containing the following supplements have been added to the list. The database also clearly states that the products are not in any way endorsed or affiliated to the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
Nandrolone - one of the most popular anabolic steroids to ever be created
Halotestin (Fluoxymesterone) - an extremely powerful anabolic androgenic steroid
Drostanolone Propionate - an anabolic androgenic steroid
Oxandrolone - is a popular anabolic steroid
Oxymetholone - is a synthetic anabolic steroid
Methenolone Enanthate/Primobolan - an anabolic androgenic steroid
Mesterolone/Proviron - one of the oldest anabolic androgenic steroids on the market
Given the above substances are banned by USADA anyway, the immediate danger likely isn't for the fighters on the UFC roster but more so to the public, which is being duped into buying a product which it believes is endorsed by the world's leading mixed martial arts brand.
The other scary aspect to consider is if these criminal organizations are willing to go to the lengths of stealing trademarks and passing these products off as officially endorsed--what are they? What do they contain? And what harm will they be doing to the unsuspecting public using them?
PED expert and anti-doping advocate @Dimspace first alerted FloCombat to the presence of the new branded substances on the high-risk database earlier this week.
He then later supplied evidence of the substances that he'd found on a number of Polish bodybuilding forums, including http://www.sfd.pl, which shows the counterfeit goods and the bottles clearly labeled with UFC branding.
Forty-eight hours ago, we reached out to both USADA and UFC for comment.
UFC declined to comment on the matter but informed us they are taking the appropriate steps from a legal perspective to address the matter.
USADA has been in communication with us but at this time has not been able to provide us with a statement. We will update our report should this change.
