Cain Velasquez Wants Fabricio Werdum Rematch if He Can't Get Stipe Miocic
Former UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez wants either a shot at the title or revenge against Fabricio Werdum.
It's been a busy few weeks of heavyweight action and one man who has been keeping an eye on it all is the former UFC heavyweight champion, Cain Velasquez.
Velasquez was last in action back UFC 200 in July where he put on one of his best performances in recent memory with a one round beatdown of Travis Browne. Having witnessed Barnett triumph over Arlovski, Werdum triumph over Browne and then Miocic defeat Overeem, Velasquez had it all figured out in his mind who he wanted to face next.
"If Stipe doesn't to take a break I want him next," Velasquez told Daniel Cormier on UFC Tonight. "I've been hearing he [Stipe] might not want to fight again until 2017—if that's the case then the only other fight that I would want, and the only other fight that makes sense right now, is Werdum in December.
Velasquez lost his UFC heavyweight title to Werdum back in June last year at UFC 188. The man from AKA admitted that revenge was something on his mind and that it plays a big role in him wanting to face the Brazilian again.
"Yeah, yeah—this is personal," Velasquez said. "I could just sit around and wait, but if Werdum wants to fight in December let’s make it happen."
Just weeks after their first fight, Werdum and Velasquez recorded a scene together in the soon to be released film Kickboxer. Velasquez admitted that filming together so quickly after the fight was a little awkward.
"I would say it was tough," he said. "Having him there and seeing him there and just knowing there was nothing I could do in that moment to right what had happened. I guess right now all I can say is I'd want him in December. You know, just get that revenge back."
Velasquez, normally not a man to pick his fights verbally, then gave a scathing review when asked what he would think if Jon Jones returned from his recent USADA issues to an immediate UFC heavyweight title shot. Suffice to say, the former UFC heavyweight champion would be none to impressed.
"After everything that's been going on right now as far as his test coming back positive, I think it would be BS if he came back and got a title shot right away," Velasquez said. "I think with him being suspended for a little bit longer, that would make it fair, but as far him going in and getting a title shot right away, no, no that just shouldn't happen."
