As the youngest fighter on the UFC roster and one of the youngest to ever step foot inside the Octagon, lightweight prospect Sage Northcutt has been the recipient of as much hype as we've seen for a young fighter.
He gave everyone in the MMA community good reason to believe the hype once he burst onto the mainstream MMA scene under the UFC banner. With his upbeat and positive personality, his action-figure physique and his video game-like skill set inside the Octagon, Sage is both marketable and fun to watch.
In our latest installment of Gym Stories, the Katy, Texas, native recounted a memorable sibling sparring session with his sister.
Colby Northcutt is a bright prospect in her own right. She's fashioned a superb amateur record by racking up a number of impressive submissions in her short career, and is ready to burst onto the mainstream scene herself.
"I train with my sister Colby a lot--she is awesome, and basically my height. She's about six feet tall," Northcutt said.
"One time, we were training in the cage at the gym I train at. We were moving around, circling and sparring. She landed a really good kick on me. The cage was a smaller cage, and the door wasn't locked. Anybody that was watching saw me get kicked, crash up against the cage door, and fly out of the cage.
"I flew down the stairs and hit the wall at the back of the building. She has some powerful kicks. I felt fine afterward. I am lucky I work my abs--that way, I have a hard core. My sister and I are just great training partners."
