The rematch more than a year in the making is finally happening in July, and it's taking place on the biggest card in Ultimate Fighting Championship history.
UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier will defend his belt against the former champion who never lost it, Jon Jones. The fight will serve as the main event of UFC 200 on July 9, a landmark event which features two other championship fights and a card that is stacked from top to bottom.
Sources close to the bout confirmed the news to FloCombat on Wednesday morning.
Jones defeated Cormier to cap off one of the UFC's more notable bitter feuds last January at UFC 182. Just before Jones was scheduled to defend his belt against Anthony Johnson in May 2015, Jones was involved in a hit and run incident in Albuquerque. He was suspended by the UFC and stripped of the championship. Cormier and Johnson faced off for the vacant title, and Cormier won by submission.
Jones and Cormier were scheduled to fight last weekend at UFC 197, but a leg injury to Cormier forced him off the card. Jones instead fought and soundly defeated Ovince St-Preux for the newly-created interim light heavyweight championship, so his UFC 200 bout with Cormier will be a unification bout.
UFC 200 will also feature Miesha Tate defending the bantamweight championship against Amanda Nunes and Frankie Edgar facing Jose Aldo for the interim featherweight championship.
